This is the most important capitol building that houses the Indiana General Assembly, the Office of the Governor of Indiana, the Supreme Court of Indiana and other such buildings. It was due to the rapid increase of population in the state that this building had to be shifted to its present location. This was the 5th time the state capitol was being shifted.
It was built in the 19th century and has been since being renovated to make it better and better. The building has been listed in the Register of Historic Places in 1984.

- Guided tours of the building are available weekdays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; Weekends - 10:15 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm.
