This is an historic and landmark building located in Downtown Indianapolis. It is owned by the Valley of Indianapolis, Scottish rite. This is an affiliated body of Freemasonry. It is one of the largest Masonic buildings that have also been referred to as one of the finest examples of Neo- gothic style of architecture in the US.
The cathedral was built between 1927 and 1929 incurring an expenditure of over 2 million. It represents a complete Scottish tradition with each dimension evenly built so that it can be divisible by 3- which is in turn the number of degrees a Scottish Rite can gain.
The main features of this building are-
- The 54 bell carillon in the main tower
- The floating ballroom.
- The other features such as the patterned ceilings, the ornate woodwork, stained glass windows and decorations and last but not the least the Tilers’ Room.
Scottish Rite Cathedral Hours
- Guided tours are held on weekdays and 3rd Saturdays of every month.

Scottish Rite Cathedral Reviews & Ratings
Beautiful location for special events. Open dining for weekday lunches. We go twice weekly during the school year for tutoring at their dyslexia center. So thankful for the men who built and maintain this lovely community resource.
One of the most unique places on EARTH! Absolutely amazing! Take a tour with a tour guide, other wise you will not be able to fully appreciate the architecture and design.
This is the most timeless and elegant venue in the city. The woodwork and architecture provide an intimate ambiance for each event. There are different rooms within the Scottish Rite for different styles and size of events. Highly recommend for a downtown Indianapolis venue!
We had our small intimate wedding at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. I can't think of a more beautiful location downtown and we were very pleased with all of the accommodations provided. The interior and exterior made for great pictures, and there was plenty of parking in the rear lot.
Does the Scottish Rite have access to free parking? We plan on attending the "Churchil Downs - A Day at the Races", Saturday, 9/21/19. Thank you in advance for your response. Sincerely, George Bohlin email@example.comAnswer Report Abuse
I don't think the Scottish Rite Cathedral has free parking facility. Rental parking is available about which you can get more information by visiting the official website of the Scottish Rite Cathedral.Report Abuse
