Located on the banks of the Moray Firth, Castle Stuart is a restored tower house. It was built on the land granted to James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray by his half-sister Mary who was Queen of Scots upon her return to Scotland in 1561.
A series of murders and fall of the House of Stuart during the English Civil War led the castle into total neglect for around 300 years.
Today, it is used as a luxury hotel and can be visited from outside if you don’t plan to stay. If you opt for the accommodation, ask for the haunted rooms and you are set to get a shiver!
