Las Lajas Sanctuary is a dangling Church that is built in one of the most precarious locations; crossing a forested gorge on the border between Ecuador and Colombia. The present Church is said to have been built somewhere between 1916 and 1949 in a Gothic Revival Style. Even though the site was dedicated as a minor basilica in 1954 by the Catholic Church, non-religious people would still be able to enjoy the neo-Gothic architecture and dramatic setting. The huge Church sits at a height of 150 feet over the river flowing below and its beautiful turrets contrast with the green cliffs elegantly and the cascading waterfalls that are visible from the spectacular arched stone bridge.
