Ipoh Railway Station, Ipoh Reviews
Very vintage old building and station, fantastic, it look cozy. But inside building look not taking good care maintenance or it not keep it up with modern style. Ipoh need new and better management to attract more tourists.
Beautiful exterior and that's about it. Insufficient seats in the waiting area and long wait for ticket purchase. Announcements are sketchy at best. Can get really chaotic, crowded and stuffy during the weekend. No information counter. There is an online ticker kiosk, however it was unmanned when I was here. Not sure if is meant to be self service. For travelling with ets, definitely recommend to book your ticket online in advanced especially during weekend and school holidays.
I'm giving this place 5 stars simply for the building. It's best looked at from around 100 metres away and you'll really appreciate the grand colonial design. Once you get inside it's a little more disappointing and it's certainly not comfortable. If you are buying tickets, try to do it online before you come. They have a fantastic app that works very well for buying e-tickets but you'll need to know someone with a Malaysian bank card. The ticket office here is a debacle. It's very slow and you have to get a q-matic ticket and wait for your number. As is quite typical in Malaysia, there's no explicit sign telling you this; you have to figure it out yourself (the hard way). The q-matic machine is on the left of the ticket counter inside the office. You wait on the seats outside the office.
Fantastic throwback to an era when rail travel still had romance sewn into your departure point. Parts of the old original structure has been preserved into the renovated interior. The charm of boarding the now electric trains from the old platforms has not been lost completely.
It has a good heritage touch. The facilities has been upgraded.
