  • Our family of three stayed at Scalpay View in July, 2016 - we thoroughly enjoyed Skye and John was an excellent host. Only one room was available when we booked, so the three of us chose to stay in one room. The room was comfortable, if somewhat cramped. the place is small, so take that into consideration. John makes a great full breakfast and was very helpful with information about Skye. We would stay here again, but two things detracted from our overall rating of Scalpay View; First, the gravel driveway is a nightmare, with it's hairpin curves, steep grade, and very limited space for parking. Secondly, we had a strange experience upon our arrival at Scalpay; We arrived a few minutes early and knocked on the door. We could see John's wife through the front window, sitting at a desk and talking on the phone. She acknowledged us with a wave, but did not answer the door. After a few minutes waiting, we motioned to her and she pointed to the phone several times and seemed to apologetically shrug her shoulders. Apparently, John was not at home. We were literally left standing at the door, suitcases in hand, for almost 30 minutes. While John was later apologetic about the situation and informed us that Rita was on the phone working, we were quite frustrated with this behavior. At no time did Rita adequately address the situation or apologize. I realize we were a few minutes early, but you don't leave your guests standing at the door - You just don't. It's disrespectful and highly unprofessional.
