Beylerbeyi Palace was supposed to be the summer residence of the Sultans, located at Asian shore of the Bosphorus. Built between 1861-1856, this palace was ordered by the sultan Abdulaziz and was given shape by the architects Sarkis Balyan and Agop Balyan who were the imperial architects of Armenian origins. The palace has been built in French neo-baroque style along with a traditional Ottoman house plan. Some of the very famous people in history have stayed here such as Prince of Serbia, King Nicholas of Montenegro, Emperor Joseph of Austro-Hungary, Shah Nasireddin of Iran, Prince Oscar of Sweden, and Empress Eugenie of France to name a few. Inside, there are 6 huge halls along with 24 rooms that are divided into mens' section (Selamlik) and womans' section (Harem) having separate entrances for both. Do visit this museum and wonder at its historic beauty and grandeur.
