Bosphorus Strait is actually a line that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. Due to its position, this strait proved to be of much strategic importance to those who traveled through waterways in the past. What makes Bosphorus strait a unique location is that it separates the European part from the Asian part of Istanbul. In Thracian language, Bosphorus refers to the “passage of the cow”. It is believed that Zeus had once transformed Io into a cow in order to make here escape Hera’s rage born out of suspect of infidelity. Io swam across this strait and was ultimately merged in the Aegean Sea. During your visit here, do walk down the famous “Bosphorus Bridge” that connects Europe to Asia, thereby experiencing a distinct geographic location.
