Galata Tower - Review

This striking tower is one of Istanbul's best known landmarks. It is 67 metrers tall and 35 metres high from sea level. It’s almost 700 years old and was used to spot fires within the city. From the restaurant and cafe on it’s upper floors, one can enjoy stunning views of the Bosphorus waters, a sight that is even better at sunset. At night, belly dancing and other authentic shows are hosted at the nightclub located in the upper floors. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Istanbul itinerary 2 days.

  • Nice but do not go up! Go to the hotel beside it and buy a beer and enjoy both the view of the tower and a better view of Istanbul from both sides of the restaurant/terrace. Seriously the line is long . Would have taken us over 30 mins at 6/7pm to go up!!! Not worth it unless it's something you really want. Hotel beside it is much better, staff are good and not that expensive considering the price you would have paid to go up the tower.

  • Lovely view up on the tower if you are ready to stand in the line for a while. And once you are up there do enjoy a tea in a restaurant which is much more relaxing and spacious. The place where you walk around to take pics may seem a bit tight. It's quite windy which is nice in the summer but bring a scarf or a hat in winter 😉

  • Quite an important landmark in the skyline of Istanbul. It also majestically stands up at the end of sloping alleys with its simple cylindrical stone structure. It polarizes the space around it creating a lively atmosphere. I missed the chance of climbing it and I will try to do that next time I visit.

  • This is amazing place and view point. At the top of the tower you have a restaurant and a gift shop. You can have dinner and enjoy beautiful Istanbul. Also note that there can be quite a big waiting time so time your visit. And try waking up to the tower thru narrow streets they have a lot of small shops and beautiful buildings. One more thing to get to the top of the tower you need to buy a ticket and also there is a elevator that goes to the restaurant and view point.

  • A unique architectural structure on the Istanbul skyline! Local preservation ordinances must keep anything else being built to a height less than Galata Tower. Kudos to the Istanbul government for doing so. That said, my journey up to the balcony coincided with a sunset and everyone was trying to nab that special shot. This should be #2 on your list after a visit to The Spice Bazaar.
