Translated as “Divine Peace”, the Hagia Irene Museum was originally built as a church in the 4th century AD over the ruins of a pagan temple by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine I. Restores ever since then again and again due to factors such as fire and earthquakes, this museum is still one of the attractions of Istanbul. This church was also used as an arsenal after the Conquest of Constantinople in 1453. The staircases that lead to the galleries and the inscription on the gate were a contribution by the Ottomans to it. Today, it also organises some classic music concerts or art exhibitions in order to attract people.
