Haydarpasa Terminal might not fit into the clichéd list of attractions for Istanbul, it is still an important junction that you can’t afford to miss while being in the city. Till the year 2012, this was a major intercity, regional and commuter rail hub as well as the busiest railway station in Turkey. In June 2013, this station was closed due to the rehabilitation of the existing line for the new Marmaray commuter rail line. However, it still houses the headquarters for District 1 of the State Railways. As for the building of this station, it was built in 1909 and has ever since then represented Istanbul and Turkey as a whole. With its neo classical architecture, the building of this station still attracts many who love history.
