As the name suggests, the Museum of Turkish Jews restores the history and culture of Jews who had migrated to Istanbul. Inside, the prominent sections are on the history of the way Jews mingled with Turkish culture. Thera are also ethnographic articles that depict the traditions of Turkish Jews, as well as the historical accounts of the Jewish odyssey from Spain to Turkey. There is a balcony where some paintings depicting the daily lives of the local Jewish community have been exhibited. On the lower ground floor, there is an ethnographic section that exhibits photographs, paintings and objects related to birth, circumcision, wedding, clothing, jewellery, etc. A visit to this museum will give you an insight into the lives of the Jewish community.

  • Best Museum in Istanbul! Lots of history of the city, in depth exhibitions and interesting artefacts about everyday sephardic life in Istanbul. Cheap to get in and you can see inside the synagogue too.

  • Tiny but very well put together museum about the Jewish community in Istanbul and greater Turkey. Run by volunteers so weekday visits only. Bring photo ID. Contribution is 20 TL. Museum store has lovely items. All information panels are also available in English.

  • Great way to learn about Jewish history in turkey

  • Very entertaining, thoughtful and insightful

  • I can't say there is a museum its an ordinary synagogue not a historic one.
