Commonly known as the Castle of the Seven towers, the Yedikule is a fortress that acquires its name due to the seven towers that feature in it. Built next to the city wall near the Byzantine Imperial Gate during the reign of Sultan Fatih Mehmet in order to protect the treasury, this fortress still looks ravishing with its ruins. During the sultan Murat III's reign, the treasury was relocated to the Topkapi Palace and Yedikule began to be used as a dungeon. Today, there is a museum inside this fortress which hosts open air concerts during the summer months.
