Dhuandhar Falls - Review
This waterfall is often referred to as the Niagra Falls of India because of the speed with which the water falls down. It mesmerises you with its beauty and charm. Located about 30 km from the city of Jabalpur, the water fall is formed by the River Narmada, which is considered as one of the five holy rivers in India. A dip in this river is said to wash away all your sins. Lots of tourists visit here and enjoy the beauty of the water fall and some take a bath too in the holy water.
As you get nearer to the waterfall, you will start hearing the thunderous sound of the falling water, which gets louder gradually. The very sight of the waterfall makes you spell bound and you will forget everything else but the mesmerising beauty of the fall. It falls from a height of 98 ft and as it falls down, it produces small water droplets, which look like smoke arising from the river bed. So the water fall got the name Dhuandhar Falls. ‘Dhuan’ means smoke and Dhuandhar means Smoke Cascade.

One of the picturesque waterfall on the the river mother Narmada. The water fall is not high but very beautiful natural scene. The amenities hare are also very good. The administration provided here construction for a safe bath. Reaching here is also very easy. We can take Metro bus services from Jabalpur city. The distance is about 16 km and it takes about 30 40 minutes to reach. Must enjoy it.
A spectacular sight. The atmosphere is very nice in the evenings as there are many things to eat and a lot of people. It is also a nice place to just relax, trek a bit further down into the rocks if you want. The worst of water is fantastic and makes the name of the waterfall very apt. Many local handicrafts are also available to purchase. The marble work is crude but makes for a nice souvenir.
These famous falls are on the banks of Narmada river. The fall has a sharp slant at this point which increases the speed of incoming water to such extend that when it flows with great speed, it leaves a cloud of water vapor behind and hence the name dhuandhar. The water is rather calm a few hundred meters ahead of the fall and people are usually seen bathing there. There is a metallic ramp just above the fall.
The incredible view of River Narmada- The river Narmada, flowing at the ground level by our side, suddenly made a diving, few feet below ,with a thunder,& the water drops bouncing back created the misty curtain through which the sun was smiling at this unique scenario. This place is really nature's marvel. The Gushing Waters and the Volume of the Waterfall at "Dhuandhar" is worth mentioning. The waterfall can be visited on foot or seen from a Cable Car that traverses the rivers giving a bird's eye of the area. The local craftsmen near the falls sell sculptured items made from soap stone, one may bargain for prices and strike the deal at cheaper rates. As the boatmen take you ahead with their unique comical and entertaining commentary you approach a River Gorge with 100 feet natural walls on each side seeming to be made of Marble colored rocks and hence the name "Marble Rocks" The White/marble color gets better as your Boat travels deep into the Gorge against the flow of the flowing water. The boat journey up and down takes nearly 45 minutes and I bet you will enjoy each moment. Tips- 1. Never visit during monsoon season. Whole area is drowned in water. 2. Hire a Taxi. Far from main city. 3. Do not miss the ropeway as the view from above is amazing. 4. If you are buying the souvenir of Bhedaghat, don’t forget to bargain.
