Located in Clarke County, Alabama, United States, Jackson is a city with a total population of around 5,550 (as of the 2020 census). With a total area of 15.8 square miles, the city experiences a moderate climate characterized by cool winters and warm summers. Jackson was founded in 1816 and named after former US President Andrew Jackson, who served the country between 1929 and 1937. During WWII, the place was home to a POW (Prisoners of War) camp, housing around 250 captured German soldiers. The city's economy is primarily driven by its timber industry, of which the Packaging Corporation of America is the largest employer. Additionally, regarding education, Jackson houses multiple schools and colleges, such as the Coastal Alabama Community College, Jackson Middle School, Jackson High School, Joe M. Gillmore Elementary, etc.
