About Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur
The famous CheelkaTeela hill of the Aravallis is home to this magnificent fort. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II for the purpose of providing security to the Amber Fort and its adjoining communities from invasions of enemies. To a large extent, the floor plan of the Jaigargh fort resembles the Amer Fort.
The main attraction of the fort is the historical cannon located in its premises named the Jaivana. The Jaivana was the largest cannon of the world which ran on wheels, and was once vital in the political conquests of the royals of Rajasthan. Four temples known as the Laxmi Vilas, Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir, and Aram Mandir are also a part of the premises. They also include luxurious stretches of gardens belonging to the royal members of the city. The Fort also houses a chamber of armoury called Shubhat Niwas.
There is also a museum which exhibits the royal art collection along with stamps, cards and other artifacts belonging to the royals. The traditional armour and artillery are also displayed in a separate section.

View of the fort from distance is something unique, I didn't imagine that it will be so enormous and standing above the old city. The fort is well preserved, with full walls and bastion with canons, There are many nice old curved houses, but most beautiful and big you can see outside the fort. The atmosphere of the fort is destroyed by the salesman that are attacking you from every corner. They are trying to get your attention on every occasion, asking you question, that you feel you must answer to be nice and polite, but at the end it is always the same - Very annoying.....
Jaigarh fort was the artillery, weapon storage storage for the kings and ruler of Jaipur. It houses one of the largest known tank in India. Apparently it was used only once. We had the pleasure of seeing a group of peacocks and peahens lazying around in the area. You can drive around the area and take the car inside the fort for an entry fee of upto Rs. 50 which is kinda nice especially if you are visiting during summer. The canal built around the fort is a nice touch as it harvested rain water used for both washing and drinking purposes. One such large water tank also housed a secret treasury built underneath it which was apparently used to build Jaipur city.
These forts in Rajasthan are wonderful creations. This fort really evokes in one that reverence towards the great monarch and artists who created it. It has a beautiful cinematic view.
The road leading up to the fort is really scenic and you can also spot a few peacocks on the way. This place was much peaceful to explore as the crowd was far less as compared to Amber Fort. Jaivana Canon is one of the main attractions at this Fort. it is truly a work of art.
Awesome fort. Must see place. Combine this with your tour to Amer fort and Navagarh. Make sure you see these 3 on the same day. You will cover the outer areas to see in Jaipur. The rest are within the city and can be done another day. Take a guide with you. The royal life was truly outstanding.
