About Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur

The famous CheelkaTeela hill of the Aravallis is home to this magnificent fort. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II for the purpose of providing security to the Amber Fort and its adjoining communities from invasions of enemies. To a large extent, the floor plan of the Jaigargh fort resembles the Amer Fort.

The main attraction of the fort is the historical cannon located in its premises named the Jaivana. The Jaivana was the largest cannon of the world which ran on wheels, and was once vital in the political conquests of the royals of Rajasthan. Four temples known as the Laxmi Vilas, Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir, and Aram Mandir are also a part of the premises. They also include luxurious stretches of gardens belonging to the royal members of the city. The Fort also houses a chamber of armoury called Shubhat Niwas.

There is also a museum which exhibits the royal art collection along with stamps, cards and other artifacts belonging to the royals. The traditional armour and artillery are also displayed in a separate section.

  • Amer fort of Jaigarh is popular for locals along with the foreigners. You will find greenery everywhere and a large canon which is a must visit in Rajasthan (see the photo). The ticket counter system is to be improved. More counter should be opened to avoid the long queue of people. There is no shed in front of the gate and place is not clean. So people has to stay beneath the sun until getting ticket.

  • I came here from the Amer Palace via the tunnel which connects the two. It's a bit of a steep walk which is good as it keeps the crowds away. Much quieter than the other Palace and more run down. Still the same amount of scammers and touts though. You can wander around freely, it's massive and easy to get lost. There's also some big monkeys sitting around the place.

  • This fort's main attraction is the largest metal cannon in the world is place inside this fort and it is a must see. Fort is huge and it situated outside city, you need to travel around 45min to reach here. This is a majestic fort constructed during the medieval period. It is located in the outskirts of Jaipur city. There is a large cannon kept within the fort. The structure of the granary and the water harvesting system is quite appreciable. The marble structure have several view points and walls of defense. This place gives you a lot of information about the kinds of weapons used during ancient wars. Jaivan is world largest Canon weighing 50 ton. I love this palace.😘😘😘😘😘

  • This fort is situated above Amber Fort. It was built for the protection of Amber Fort. Amber fort is also known as Amer Fort. Entry pass is 100 Rs for Indians. And 50 Rs extra if entering with vehicle. Prefer vehicles during summers as it's too hot here.

  • Much quieter than Amber Fort so was really good to get away from the crowds of people. Don't need a guide to get around, we just did a walk along the Fort wall and did a loop to look at the views around us. Worth checking out if you're going to do all three forts in Jaipur in one day.
