The Surya Gate is one of the gates that lead to the famous Jaisalmer Fort made in the 12th century. The beautiful gate is the second in a series of 4 gates and is a rather narrow gate (to monitor and prevent entry of enemies by large numbers) with beautiful stone carvings that adorn its walls.

There are many shops lined in between the first gate- ‘Akhai gate’ and Surya gate where you can buy small gift items.

The gate itself is popular for the stone carvings that adorn its doorway and is perfect to capture some historical art in your camera. The whole Jaisalmer Fort, best known as the Golden Fort (for its strikingly yellow sandstone that is beautiful when the sunrays fall on the walls), accommodates a number of beautiful palaces and the Jain and Hindu Temples. 

The gate has no prices but the fort prices are:

• INR 30 for Indians.
• Still camera is INR 50.
• For foreigners the fee is INR 250 with audio guide and including one still camera.
• The fee for Video camera is INR 100.

• The gate can be seen anytime but the entry to the fort is as per the fort timings. (Fort is open daily from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm).

• By taking a Tuk Tuk
• On foot
