Damascus Gate - Review
The Demascus Gate was completed by 1537 under the Ottoman rule. Underneath this gate remains of an older gate dating back to the 2nd century were found.
Today the Damascus Church stands tall and proud of its history and architecture. You will find people drinking coffee, smoking and eating around the gate and many tourist head straight form this gate to the Wailing wall.
- Design of the gate which includes stairs that descend to the Gate (rather than ascend to it).

Damascus Gate, Jerusalem Reviews
One of the largest and most beautiful gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. Below the gate there is an archaeological excavation site where the ancient pillar symbolizes the center of the city from which distances were measured to all the cities of the Roman Empire. This pillar appears in the famous mosaic of Madaba Map, which was found 150 years ago in a church that was built in the fifth century AD near Amman, the capital city of Jordan.
Despite the tension, this glorious entrance to the amazing multi-everything city is getting tempting. And the brave ones will step into a big wow market with widest range of foods, spices, clothes and so much more.
Friendly safe entrance to old city. Lots of restaurants and vendors in the area. Less convenient than Jaffa gate but good meeting point.
A remarkable structure. Quite Impressive when when considering how old it is and its role in History. You can start your exploration of the old city through here and come out at the western wall. There is a bus stop 2 mins away where you can catch the #1 to the Central bus station. If you exit through the Damascus Gate your best option will be the light rail
This is one of the most beautiful and impressive gates among the gates of the wall, which was built during the times of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent from the 16th century. It is located at the edge of the Arab bazaar and marketplace. In contrast to the Jaffa Gate, where stairs rise towards the gate, in the Damascus Gate, the stairs descend towards the gate.
