The lake is a man-made construct, built in 1159 AD by Balak Rao Parihar to provide water to the city of Mandore. One kilometre long, 15 metres deep, and 50 metres wide, it is a rather convenient picnic spot not far from Jodhpur. The best way to experience it is if you stay at the Lake Palace built on red-sandstone, but it's not mandatory. You still get to take in the lush greenery and the wildlife even if you're not a guest. It is a pretty and peaceful place.
- If you're not a guest, don't trespass on the resort grounds.
- Free entry to lake.
- Inquire locally about garden entry ticket.
- Drive, take a cab.

Words are poor tools to describe this heaven on Earth. The understated elegance and grandeur is apparent from the moment you enter the grounds. The huge property with it's beautiful manicured lawns and lush greenery with the fragrance of blooming flowers is a balm for the soul ravaged by modern day living. In this beautiful corner of the world time has stood still and invites nostalgia for the days when we lived better. Reminds one to stop running and look around smell the flowers and get to know someone you had lost touch with.....yourself.
A perfect stay! We stayed here for two nights in October and it could not have been more perfect. We were intending to go into Jodhpur to eat, but on the recommendation of other guests decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. We were not disappointed - the food, service and setting were all excellent.
This review would have been 5 stars if it was not for the embarrassing actions of front desk hotel staff after departure when they tried to correct a mistake they made on the bill. The hotel, grounds, staff, and food were all above expectations. The place is very clean and the food for breakfast and dinner was highly enjoyable. Breakfast had a nice selection of Indian dishes and also standard western fare (eggs, pancakes, omelets.) Dinner at the kebab korner was wonderful including the outdoor setting. The hotel grounds had numerous peafowl running around everywhere. The monkeys were kept in check by the staff so that they did not become a nuisance.
If you are in the city and you’re not staying in this hotel or you cannot imagine what it is to feel like a real maharaja the service was amazing and the crew was unbelievable we have arrived at the middle of the night because of a mistake on the road but the crew allows us to stay during the day and enjoying the facility without charging anything food court had the best breakfast I had In the last three weeks. I wish I could give more than five stars
I just live this place. Love it my all. Any day n anytime. It's just dream destination for good romantic walks, photography, food and greenery all around.
