The Market Theatre - Review

The Market Theatre of Johannesburg symbolizes the great communal harmony and unity among the races during the difficult era of the apartheid. It has been awarded with the honour of the Jujamcyn Award of America owing to its immense and unparalled contribution to the creative arts, especially in the field of theatre. Over the decades of its service, the Market Theatre has been honoured with more than 20 international awards,and more than 300 national awards from the South African province. Among the sections it houses, the Main Theatre Hall, which accommodates almost 400 viewers and is the biggest among all of the Market Theatre Halls.

The special attraction of the Market Theatre is the Lagger Theatre which consists of a fortified structure of wagons conjoined to form a circular model. The Market Theatre additionally includes two large galleries of exhibitional art, a jazz bar, and book store, along with the famous restaurants named the Gramadoelas and the Market Bar and Bistro.

  • Always awesome. The place is now revamped. It's beautiful and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Did not run around to get my tickets. I paid online which was more convenient. The show was great.

  • This place always gets full marks from me. They have great shows, great actors, great price for their shows and the place is clean, wheelchair accessible, bathrooms are very clean. The bar is my favourite hangout after the show. The waitrons are friendly, and quick with orders. I just love this place.
