You may not see what is so special about the Giant Rock of Joshua Tree, but this 5,800-square-feet of rock is known to be one of the largest freestanding boulders in the world. Considered sacred by Native Americans and used as a spiritual site for centuries, this rock is surrounded by different myths and theories. Prospector Frank Critzer dug a hole beneath this rock and stayed there during the 1930s and 40s. In 2010, a large piece of this rock broke off and can be seen beside the original rock today.
