The moderate climate of Kaikoura has sunny, warm summers and comfortable winters, with snow on the mountains. January and February are warmest and driest, with most rain falling between June and August (winter).

For sea activities December to April are the best months to visit. To take full advantage of mountain activities autumn, winter and spring (March to November), boast stunning views or skiing activities respectively.
