Ohau Waterfall Walk And Stream Walk - Review
The Ohau Waterfall is a little distance away from the main town on the highway. This absolutely gorgeous place can be reached through a short and non-labor intensive walk and is a complete delight.
The waterfall is frequent home to incredibly adorable seal pups but if you go around October to February (Summer) you won’t be able to see them. But even without them, this attraction is certainly worth visiting.
Set amidst a verdant and beautiful forest, this gorgeous waterfall is a great place to plan a day trip to. You can take a picnic to the place and enjoy a great meal amidst nature. Winter or summer, this place is a must visit in Kaikoura.
If you are going in winter, the Ohau Waterfall offers up a real treat. Seal Pups come here to enjoy the little stream that are a truly lovely sight.

Ohau Waterfall Walk And Stream Walk, Kaikoura Reviews
Its a shame that it's permanently closed! This was one of the best experience I had in Kaikora, and unbelievable close up encounters with baby seals. Hope the roads and steams will be restored someday so everyone else gets a chance to learn about them and understand the importance of wildlife conservation.
Unfortunately this place looks like it’s permanently closed now due to the earthquake and the roadworks around the area.
One of the Highlights of New Zealand.... Though I hear it might be gone due to earthquakes... Baby seals head inland to a waterfall where they live till their old enough to head out to sea... Very Cool. Spent half the day hanging out with these little guys. Free and definitely worth a visit.
A perfect location for seal pups. The walkway is best visited in the colder months. Its a very short walk and certainly worth the stop! Playful seal pups abound.. please respect them and their environment for them to continue living in this beautiful space.
An awesome, free attraction in a completely natural environment. We didn't see any seals at the waterfall but it's still definitely worth the walk to see the falls. We saw dozens of seals across the road from the falls and at at lookout up the road. Very cute but don't get too close as they are very protective of their young.
