The Whaler Bar And Restaurant - Review

The Whaler is a very pleasant Bar in Kaikoura. The place is perfect for a night out with friends or your significant other. Delicious fresh beer and lip-smacking sea food too go with it make the highlights of this very popular nocturnal haunt.

They play lovely music and hence you can relax and not worry about the world as you sit here and sip your drink. The food is worth two mentions because it is light and tasty, perfect for a night out on the town. The decor says a lot about the history of this whaling town. As a result the bar is a great place to take in the culture of Kaikoura.

They also have quiz nights and karaoke and several other fun activities to do. The upper floors provide wonderful views of the mountains and the sea, making it a great place to visit even in the afternoons but the real fun starts at night.

The Whaler Bar And Restaurant, Kaikoura Reviews

  • Ok, giving this a go as passing through. Food was good but staff and the general service was terrible. Very obvious and selective service at the counter by the older waitress who's possibily the manager, tried to serve two other gents despite being first in line. Second gent was kind enough to point out I was first. Colleagues order arrived 30min late, total of 1hr 20 min wait. Waitress offered a complimentary beer, never came despite a reminder. Given this town depends on tourists for survival surely this is great example of biting the hand that feeds?

  • Great food, easy to order, service is good and staff are friendly. Midweek and food came out in an awesome amount of time. Accompanied by one of many beers on tap. A very enjoyable experience.

  • Really enjoyed my seafood chowder here. Would have been top notch if it didn't have surumi in it.

  • I'd recommend the mussels. Really good quality and atmosphere

  • Fish and chips were cooked too low of a temp, so fish was soaked with oil. McDonald's has better ribs....
