- Winter (November to March): The best time to visit Kailua Kona is during winter with temperature a little milder than summer and lots of surfing opportunities along with a chance to get a glimpse of humpback whales. The island becomes a victim of Vog – a volcanic smoke that erupts from the active volcanoes and might create problems for visitors with any health conditions like asthma along with common complaints like headache and sore throat. Being an off season, visitors also get some relief when it comes to accommodation and flight tickets.
