Temperate weather and lots of sunshine make Kailua Kona a preferred destination of the tourists all year round. Owing to its location, Kailua Kona experiences only two major seasons – summer and winter.
Winter (November to March): The best time to visit Kailua Kona is during winter with temperature a little milder than summer and lots of surfing opportunities along with a chance to get a glimpse of humpback whales. And though the weather in Kailua Kona is never freezing, the summit may well be experiencing sub-zero temperatures! Carry your woollens if you have plans to visit the summit for some stargazing fun.
Summer (April to October): Although an off season, the island is still full of visitors – first timers as well as returning visitors who just can’t get enough of this beautiful Islands! Chances of rainfall are higher during summer, although the sky is clear by evening and doesn’t play a spoilsport. The island becomes a victim of Vog – a volcanic smoke that erupts from the active volcanoes and might create problems for visitors with any health conditions like asthma along with common complaints like headache and sore throat. Being an off season, visitors also get some relief when it comes to accommodation and flight tickets.
