Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm - Review

A one of its kind farm in Kailua Kona that is dedicated to care for seahorses - and it shows in the way they conduct tours! Learn everything you need to know about the seahorses and then some more. Highlight of the tour is that visitors get to actually have a seahorse curl around their finger. You may even buy a pair for your aquarium at home – just make sure you understand how to care for these fragile creatures and how to handle them if they get sick or are in need of any special attention!

Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm, Kailua-kona Reviews

  • My thoughts: 1) I can't imagine the majority of these 5-star reviews are real unless they are all from six-year-olds whose parents gave them a large amount of ice cream during the tour. 2) It feels better if you imagine it as a $15 admission and a $30 donation. 3) If it's hot out, don't do this. If it's not hot out, still, maybe don't do this. 4) It's like one of those books that could have been a good 10-pager but got drug out to 150 pages to help sell copies. 5) If you like gift shops that have sea horse things, this is your place.

  • This place was amazing!!! It's definitely a must see if you ever visit Hawaii!!! You learn so much about the seahorses and at the end of the tour you even get the chance to hold a live seahorse!!! Though if you're under a certain age you won't be able to hold the seahorses, but there is an alternative for young children. But I would definitely recommend this place!!!

  • Well thought out tour. Good info and good pacing. The stops allowed you to view the creatures, feed them and hold them at the end. Tour guide kept things interesting and informative! Expensive, but still much cheaper than most things on Kona side, plus it's going to a good cause. Highly recommend, tours fill up fast.

  • I called for directions. The woman gave such poor directions I arrived at the end of the tour. I asked for a discount so my grandson could see the seahorses after all that time in the car and was told no. I had to stop 2x at an abalone growing office to ask for directions because there is no street sign that says seahorse. They said lots of people stop to ask. I got no apology and no discount. If you go, make sure you get detailed directions.

  • Honestly one of the coolest experiences. The tour was a great way to learn about seahorses and is fairly interactive. Great for kids and adults alike.
