The Kalayar Koil is a historic destination in Tamil Nadu which was once ruled by MaruthuPandiyar OR Maruthu Sakothararkal. The place is mostly known for the Shiva Temple there and that attracts quite a lot of devotes from far and wide. The 150-feet tall Rajagopuram of the ancient temple survived a major devastation when the thatched cover that was built around the tower for the purpose of renovation caught fire in the fireworks Kalayar Koil is owned by the Rajah family of Sivaganga. Kalayar Kovil was also known for being the seat of the kings right from the very early days.
