Kanazawa Castle - Review

Every tourist destination has a place which will take you back in time and Kanazawa is no exception! The Kanazawa Castle was an important structure back in ancient times and today, it is one of Kanazawa’s top attractions. Located just adjacent to the Kenrokuen Garden, the Kanazawa Castle was built by Sakuma Morimasa in late 1500s. Watchtower, grand entrance gates, extravagant hallways, Kanazawa Castle has it all! In addition is the stunning view. One can even spot the Mt Utatsu from the castle. It is advisable to carry your camera for some great photo ops.

Kanazawa Castle, Kanazawa-shi Reviews

  • Very nice restoration of the Kanazawa Castle. I recommend visiting the beautiful visitor's center just outside the castle but inside the castle grounds for a great view of the castle and an nice reprieve from the crowds of visiting in high season. Of course the castle gardens are also spectacular as are the castle construction and engineering. The only downside are the crowds, which tend to detract from the enjoyment during peak season.

  • I enjoyed the walk around the castle grounds. Paid to get inside the castle and the video on how they reconstructed the castle was very informative. Arrived here first thing in the morning when they just opened up so was able to enjoy the place before the crowd came.

  • Gorgeous castle and castle grounds. It's free to enter the castle grounds and 310¥ to enter the castle proper. There are pathways in the castle grounds that go through a small enclave of trees that feel private and secluded in an otherwise bustling city. A must-see in Kanazawa.

  • Amazing architecture with ancient Japanese brilliant wooden frame pillar construction methods. Great place to observe the historical wooden framework design combining the pillar and beams to erect the ceiling. Really marvelous artwork. Visitors can get a JPY500 special ticket to visit both the Kenrokuen Garden and the Kanazawa Castle. Highly recommend!!

  • It's was rebuilt using traditional techniques. The inside was fairly barren and was a few towers which went to a second story. Overall it was ok. I'd still go to it if I was in the area but I would go out of my way to visit this castle
