The War Cemetery (chong Kai) is a significant World War II Cemetery nestled by the Kwai Noi River. Here, lying beneath the ground, are 1,740 unfortunate prisoners who lost their lives and failed to return to their homeland. The place was once used as a war camp for the prisoners but now it is open from 9 am till 5 pm to let the visitors pay tribute to the 7,000 Dutch and Commonwealth Soldiers who worked as Japanese Prisoners of War in the Burma Railway. The War Cemetery (chong Kai) features a Bridge and a Death Railway that depicts that the wars are futile efforts to make peace. A walk along the bridge will be enjoyable while soaking in the lush greenery that surrounds it.

A very difficult review as I just feel so sad when I visit here, and I've been here a bunch of times. At a distance, it looks so nice, but then walking around and seeing the gravestones, and seeing how young they were, and the words of their family, I find it to be overwhelming. It has to be seen though.
Very moving as with all war cemeteries. Beautifully kept.
This remote cemetery is more quite than the one in the downtown. Unfortunately the gable roof (which I presume was attached later) alienates the place and devalues its serenity.
Impressive, if you are interested in history!
Historical site to visit with deep respect.
