Crocodile Bank is also known as Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology (MCBT). It is simultaneously a registered trust and a zoo formed under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 to preserve, and give shelter to the divergent endangered reptile species, especially crocodiles. It breeds around 5000 crocodiles hailing from predominantly 6 varied species. This Centre is also dedicated to research and education on these imperiled species. This sanctuary attracts thousands of tourists, boosting the tourism industry in this part of India.
