this is the biggest temple i ever visited in my life, i was absolutely speechless when i visited to this huge temple, i wondered how it could have been built. i tried to imagine all those days of the building of the temple, i just mesmerized. i feel everyone should visit this place once and know the history of this temple
Big temple in Kanchipuram and Lord Shiva looks good. Festival during March is famous. The temple tower is visible in the Chennai to Bangalore highway.
Excellent temple with lot of artistic value. This temple is one among the panchbootha kshetra. The deity is made of sand representing the bootha earth. The sthala purana says that goddess Parvathi once closes lord Shiva's both eyes playfully which caused numerous creatures to suffer as lords one eye is Surya and the other is Chandra. To dissolve the sin of doing this Shiva sent her to earth and she came here and made Linga out of sand under a mango tree on the bank of Kamba river and worshipped. Suddenly the river was flooded and to safe guard the sand Linga Kamatchi (Parvathi) hugged the sand linga and Shiva appears and takes back Parvathi with him.
