About Kandy Lake, Kandy
This beautiful water reservoir is the heart of the Kandy city and the scenic ecosystem around it enhances its presence. Initially believed to serve as a personal Harem for the king Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, the lake has many folktales around it. The lake is said to be connected to the royal by a secret tunnel.
The fortress-style parapet around the perimeter of the lake was a British addition and it is a pleasant spot to just breathe and observe the peaceful beauty of the hill station.

Kandy Lake, Kandy Reviews
Wow amazing evening experience by the lake.. plan to be here at sunset (the benches in front of Kandy Art Association side) give you a nice view.. so tranquil watching the sunset and many ducks.
One of the best places to visit in Kandy for a peace of mind & for a great relaxing walk or jogging with fresh air surrounding, it's priceless. Seatings available too at several points where you can relax & enjoy the lake. But be aware of beggars as they are always lurking around seeking for money.
Most calming and a secret places on Earth. Beside is the Temple of tooth. I use visit here one or twice a month. The tank is well maintained and they keep it the way it should be. Its better if you can have at least a single visit round around the lake. And you'll wnjoy it for sure.
The lake used to be lovelier when it was not fenced and the area had free access. Now city side is cordoned and one has to go through the fence gate . It kills the entire serenity it once had. From the other side it's still beautiful but the traffic diverted due to closure of. City side and growing number of vehicles make it busy. Not the soothing experience anymore. Lake nevertheless is beautiful and find a calm spot to have a relaxing evening
This is a nice place to go stroll around. You can make a day of it while also visiting the sacred tooth museum and temple and also Helga's folly. You can see some wildlife in the lake as well. Very much the centre of Kandy
