Kandy Lake - Review

This beautiful water reservoir is the heart of the Kandy city and the scenic ecosystem around it enhances its presence. Initially believed to serve as a personal Harem for the king Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, the lake has many folktales around it. The lake is said to be connected to the royal by a secret tunnel.

The fortress-style parapet around the perimeter of the lake was a British addition and it is a pleasant spot to just breathe and observe the peaceful beauty of the hill station.

  • One of the cleanest lakes I have seen. Well maintained. The pathway is so elegantly crafted here, plus the cool breeze makes this place unforgettable. You can catch the occasional glimpses of fishes and ducks. The nearby market and the clean road adds to it's beauty. A nice view of the hotels etc built on mountains can be seen from this lake. One of the major attraction in Kandy. View of the sunset is just awesome & breathtaking.

  • A really really beautiful lake and one to appreciate. The city circles this lake so it's something you cant miss when in Kandy. The lake is calming and it appears there are even boat trips possible from here which is a nice touch. Not sure how much this costs but being a touristy place I would expect UK sorts of prices for boat rides. We took a walk around the lake when we had some spare time and being so close to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic just added to the feeling you get appreciating the sights and sounds.

  • Kandy lake brings grace and beauty to the Kandy city. Located in the centre of the town. The sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic situated very close to the lake. A jogging track has been built around the lake. So an ideal place for joggers. Recommend to visit this place early morning.

  • Kandy is one of the most beautiful City in Sri Lanka. Lake has brought more attraction to the Kandy city. Lovely place to walk around.

  • I think most coolest place in the earth. Located near to most venerable place in the world Temple of Tooth. Amazing late night experience around the lake. Seating facility available around lake. You can feed the fish in the lake. You have to spend few hours around lake.
