Sri Lankaâs picturesque old capital and cultural sanctuary Kandy brings a fascinating experience to a visitor. Situated on the banks of delightful, tree-lined lake with green wooded mountains as a backdrop and the magnificent golden roofed Dalada Maligawa as the centerpiece, Kandy has its own irresistible charm.
Sri Lanka is a diverse destination with an amazing range of experiences for such a small island. The recorded history of the Island dates back 2500 years when an exiled prince from north India drifted into the shores of Sri Lanka to establish the first known civilisation here.
For a small island, Sri Lanka can boast of a diverse landscape of golden beaches, rolling hills, forests and lush tea plantations.
This private day trip will visit three famous destinations in Sri Lanka, one is historical, another cultural, and the final destination a place where man meets nature. The historical destination is the rock fortress, Sigiriya; the cultural destination is the beautiful rural village, Hiriwaduna; and the final nature destination is the Minneriya National Park.
You will be visiting Sigiriya first for a view of the famous Sigiriya Rock Paintings and the many marvelous ‘modern’ additions that King Kasiappa had in his fortress. Afterwards you will visit a Sri Lankan village still living in a bygone era for a taste of authentic Sri Lankan traditions and activities (the tasting part is literal as you will get lunch here too). Finally, you will be visiting the Minneriya National Park for a chance to see some wildlife in their natural habitats.
Go into the chilly highlands of Sri Lanka and take in the spectacular mountain top views and majestic waterfalls. Sri Lanka is world renowned for its amazing tea. In fact, all of the country's tea comes from its highlands. The humidity, climate and cool atmosphere all play a part in giving Ceylon Tea its unique taste. You can witness this rich heritage by visiting tea estates, as well as working tea factories and get hands on experience on the art of tea making. Tea isn't the only thing grown in these areas, as the amazing climate allows some other beautiful flora to blossom here, as well. Visit the Hakgala Botanical Gardens and be mesmerized by the enchanting flowers of the region. You could also visit the serene Lake Gregory and calm your senses to the hypnotic lapping of water at its banks.

Ticks the boxes for a comfortable, clean cheap room in a quiet location on the hillside overlooking the town centre. A tuktuk from the station will set you back around Rs200 ...and believe me it's a steep climb, take the tuktuk! Staff are super friendly, the bed was comfortable with a neat little en suite and a great view from the wee balcony... and for less than £20 it's good value. Breakfast is an optional extra, but it's only 10 minute walk down the hill to plenty of food options in town. The trust supports education for the poorest families of tea workers and some of your room fee goes directly to this cause.
Very nice and clean accommodation. A bit distant from the center, but you will get piece and nice view on the Kandy. Great if you are traveling with children.
Nice, helpful staff, rooms are small but clean, good water pressure and wifi ! Good place to stay in candy! Great view over the city (but unfortunately a little bit far away, tuktuk for 150-200R recommended)
Stunning view of the kandy city. Value for money.
This place is now a restaurant and a motel. You can go there for a delicious meal. And the view of the kandy city is really beautiful.
