Kangaroo Island can never be too hot or too cold. The average temperatures throughout the year range between 11°C - 19°C.
Summer (December - February): Summers are hot and dry with maximum temperatures rarely crossing 35 degrees Celsius. The arrival of the summer season forces the wildlife retreats to bushland habitats for shelter in the heat of the day. This is also the time of year when the beaches are at their best.
Winter (June - August): Winters are often mild and wet with July being the wettest month and the average temperature ranging between 8 degrees Celsius to 15 degrees Celsius. It is during this season that the island receives a majority of rainfall. Winter is considered as the off-season, with very fewer tourists visiting the town, making the experience much more peaceful. Winter is also the best time to see newborn kangaroos, koalas and wallabies.
Spring (September - November): Spring is the time when the weather is pleasant and wildflowers are in full bloom with a backdrop of magnificent eucalyptus trees. The temperature fluctuates between 17 degrees Celsius to 23 degrees Celsius and ins relatively pleasant. One can also witness a few showers in this season.
Autumn (March - May): Autumn is a season of transition with calm oceans and warm days. It is the perfect time of year to go hiking and bird watching and to see the Little Penguins begin nesting. A famous attraction during the fall season is “Kangaroo Island Feastival” festival that takes place in the month of April. Showers can be expected during the end of the month. The weather remains pleasant and the temperature fluctuates between 18 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.
Because of the mild temperatures, you can set your vacation planners to Kangaroo Island all year around. However, the best time to visit the Kangaroo Island would be during the spring season between September and November when the island’s unspoilt luscious landscapes and abundant wildlife beauty can be enjoyed most. To avoid the crowds, June, July and August are also excellent and peaceful to visit Kangaroo Island.
