This temple is one of the most important in Kerala and is on the banks of the River Valapattanam. The Parassini Madappura sree Muthappam Temple is dedicated to Sree Muthappan.

The best part about this temple is that there is no idol here. There is a man who sits there decorated and you can chat with him as you pray and in turn he will answer your problems and give you solutions after listening to everything. These solutions are considered to be sacred by everyone. He is known as the Theyyam Muthuppan. At the end he parts with the eldest male devotees drinking some liquor, while the other offerings are given to the dogs. Dogs are considered very sacred here and the Theyyam Muthuppan is always accompanied by a dog.

The Sree Muthappan is the personification of two divine figures- Thiruvappana (Lord Vishnu) and Vellotom (Lord Shiva). These two gods are different but here they are worshipped as one and the same collectively known as Sree Muthappan. Here Lord Vishnu has a fish shaped crown and Lord Shiva wears a moon shaped crown. Two carved bronze dogs are there in front of the entrance known to be bodyguards of the God apart from the many that stay in the temple complex. When the Prasad is ready it is first served to the dogs and then distributed.
