The Kurmi Market was a bustling slave market square around 600 years ago, but now it is a huge artefact and handicraft market. The market dates back to 15th century when it was founded by the then king of Kano City, Muhammed Rumfa. The market area sprawls over sixteen hectares of area with more than thousand stalls and is among the largest market places in all over Africa. From Gold or Silver works to Bronze utensils and figurines, African handicrafts to traditional hand-woven fabrics –the items that you will find here, have attachment with the history and culture of the city. While visiting Kurmi Market, make sure to check out the traditional attires like Fulani, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.
