About Vattakottai Fort, Kanyakumari

The Travancore kingdom has left a mighty reminder of its power through the VattaKottai Fort. This court designed in a circular frame is an interesting site to visit near Kanykumari. Made of Granite and partly extending into the sea, this monument has braved the odds over the years and still stands strong on the coast of Kanyakumari. This fort was set up for naval defense in its time.

Today it is a popular tourist destination. The experience of being on this old fortress is both serene and powerful at the same time. The history of the place is very interesting and action packed whereas the sea and the green grass has a calming effect on you resulting in a surreal experience. The fort is only a short distance from Kanyakumari and hence a must visit on your trip there.

Vattakottai Fort, Kanyakumari Reviews

  • Very good place to list your day out with family and friends. Fort inside is well maintained. You can get amazing pics to memorize your visit. Atmosphere is very peaceful. Parking is not upto the standards needs improvement and also road leading to this fort is bit confusing considering road condition. It was good if they could have placed reading boards to understand more of this place rather relying on google as we had too to make understand of this scenic location.

  • Beautiful place. Nothing spectacular at first but do climb the steps to see the wonderful view of the sea. Then you come to understand the strategic location of the fort. The ramps for rolling up the cannons are seen alongside the steps. There is also a holding cell for prisoners. A basic pay n use toilet and a small store selling water and other packaged foods is seen right outside the fort. What is lacking is a plaque or tour guide to explain about the fort.

  • Amazing place. Small fort with a good view. Good for a day trip with friends and family. Excellent location for photos. The beach is also quiet and calm. The fort closes at 5 so make sure you are there earlier if you intend to spend some time.

  • Very good place to sit and relax.. If you can go with food that would be fantastic.. Good vision of sea.. Nice loans.. No entry fee

  • Place has amazing view of sea... You can enjoy the beach(not too deep) by the side of fort. However there are no life guards available so take care of yourself self. The fort is small. Mostly families will come to have small picnic and family time. Near by is a holy temple. You can also see wind farms from here Dont bring big big cameras as this place is maintained by Archeological Survey of India. If they suspect you are shooting videos they might kick you out. The staff is good and cooperating, they will respect you and allow for pics but no videos.
