Vattakottai Fort - Review

The Travancore kingdom has left a mighty reminder of its power through the VattaKottai Fort. This court designed in a circular frame is an interesting site to visit near Kanykumari. Made of Granite and partly extending into the sea, this monument has braved the odds over the years and still stands strong on the coast of Kanyakumari. This fort was set up for naval defense in its time.

Today it is a popular tourist destination. The experience of being on this old fortress is both serene and powerful at the same time. The history of the place is very interesting and action packed whereas the sea and the green grass has a calming effect on you resulting in a surreal experience. The fort is only a short distance from Kanyakumari and hence a must visit on your trip there. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Kanyakumari itinerary 1 day.

  • The fort look simple on entering. But when you go inside you hear the sea roaring.. That's when u get the motivation to climb the tall stairs just to glance the amazing view. It's surrounded by sea, sand, coconut tree and wind Mills. It's amazing just to stand there and watch..

  • View from the Fort is speculator. Historical place with serene ambience. Great view of the coast and windmills. Good for lovers to spend time in the shades of neem trees. Not a tourist spot though, just a historical monument. No entrance fee.

  • It was built in the 18 century as coastal defence fort of Travancore. Now its open to public and there is no fee for visiting. The fort is not usually crowded and has a beautiful ambiance. The upper portion gives us a vast and beautiful view of the sea. Wind Tunnels are also seen from there . People who loves silence and clam ambiance are worth visiting

  • I enjoyed a lot here. You can see the beauty of the sea. It will very hot during summer still you can enjoy the nature here. I don't know how it will be in rainy season. If anyone visited in rainy season please inform how it will be...

  • A very good fort with a lot of historic background. Well maintained. The view of different oceans combining can be seen in some places. Has a nice panoramic view. It's very open. Sunsets would be very beautiful. To take camera inside you need to pay Rs 25(non refundable).
