In 1991, this was named America’s best beach; that 15 minutes of fame turned into steady popularity. The two reefs that form the bay also form a shelter; the water is always gentle. This makes the beach an excellent place for snorkelling, especially for beginners and kids. The water at the centre of the beach tends to stir up the sand, but the northern side is pretty clear, and gets clearer the further out you swim. The fish at the reef come in every color in many varieties. It’s quite pretty.
Just off the beach is the Kapalua Coastal Trail. Check it’s location on a online map.

Great family beach - the waves are not too big and the first couple of feet of the shore do not have coral which makes it a great spot to just relax in the water. We saw one turtle near the left side of the bay, which was so amazing to see! The visibility for snorkelling is a bit foggy but once you focus on one fish you won't be disappointed. Also saw many different types of small fish (rainbow fish) and an eel. We were able to get a spot under the cliff so we had some shade but those spots are limited so be prepared with an umbrella if you don't want to be in the sun while not in the water. There are also a few restaurants in the area that have happy hour (mid afternoon until 5-6 o'clock) and it is also in close proximity to Kaanapali. We went to Sea House Restaurant for happy hour between 2-4:30pm which is a short 5 minute walk from the beach. Would definitely recommend this beach for a nice relaxing couple of hours.
We were at Kapalua beach this past week a couple of times....GREAT GENTLE AND FRIENDLY BEACH.. Visibility was great and we saw as many fish as when we went snorkeling with "Pride of Maui" (highly recommend that boat...) Saw a turtle and also several eels besides the fish. We will certainly go,back,to,that bay. Happy hour at Merriman to the left of the bay, is most enjoyable.
Small, uncrowded breach somewhat protected by the prevailing winds. Lots of slippery rocks getting into the water. Follow the sand and you'll be fine. Good for snorkeling.
The waves were a bit dangerous to swim and snorkel, but it was fun to be with family members.
Spent the afternoon here swimming and snorkeling. The water was warm and the sand was really soft. Only downside is there is not a lot of parking.
