The earliest mention of Cide was in Ilyada by Homer- written 2800 years ago. The place was formerly known as Aycelos and was a settlement around the harbour. Throughout history the place had a significant role to play- it was ruled by Anatolian Seljuks during the 13th century and the Ottoman Empire during the 15th century. Irrespective of the rulers, Cide continued to be an important place for trade and was also a part of the Silk route. The town is loved for its long stretch of beach, its history of settlements and its natural treasures that include the Ilgarini Cave, the Valla Canyon and the Gideros Bay.

Today, the harbour pulls tourist to find a quaint spot and see the many yachts bob around the pristine blue water. The beach, even though quite crowded, offers a good way to cool off during summers while the sheer gorgeous landscapes of the bay mesmerise one and all. You would want to take a few pictures around the town.
