The Kavaledurga Fort or Bhuvanagiri Fortress is a ruined granite fort from 9th century. The fort was the stronghold of the feudatories or Nayakas of Keladi who became independent after the fall of the Vijayanagara rulers. The ruins of the fort now bears instance of the granary, treasury, ponds and stables for horses and elephants which were part of the complex. You will see three lines of walls made of massive granite blocks that camouflages with the natural colour of the hill. In each fortification of the Kavaledurga Fort, you will notice a gateway leading to guard rooms, basements of various structures, temple remnants and ruined palace. A small hike passing the Srikantheswara Temple will offer you a nice view of the Western Sea.
