Kul Sharif Mosque, Kazan Reviews

  • People in Kazan (and republic of Tatarstan) is almost evenly split between Orthodox Christian and Muslim. So in the city of Kazan there is, in the Kremlin, both the Annunciation Cathedral and very modern mosque built where the Qolşärif mosque, destroyed in 1562 by Ivan the Terrible, stood. Building started in 1996 ad it was inaugurated in 2005 during celebrations for the 1000 years of Kazan. Mosque is really impressive with its tall minarets and white walls. Even though it has a style remembering the past (and, forgive me, a 1001 nights ‘scent’) it is entirely modern. Really worth a visit.

  • It is a best Mosque in kazan. I heard that it was destroyed in 15th or 16th century and it was reconstructed in may be 1956. Really it was a very hard history of the Mosque.

  • The Qolşärif Mosque (also spelled Qol Sharif, Qol Sherif and Kol Sharif via the Tatar Qol Şärif mäçete, Qolşärif mäçete, and Kul Sharif via the Russian мечеть Кул-Шариф, mechet Kul-Sharif) is one of the largest mosques in Russia

  • Beautiful landmark within Kazan Kremlin, modern yet classical interior. The mosque is welcoming not only muslims, but tourists in general.

  • If you have the chance, go in the evening, by sunset. Might be the most beautiful building I've ever seen .
