Formally opened on Icelandic National Day, 17th June in 2009, Viking World is a museum in the Njarðvík town of Iceland. The museum is home to the exhibition called Vikings — The North Atlantic Saga from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. One of the prime exhibits in the museum is Íslendingur, the replica of the Gokstad Viking ship. The ship is raised one and a half kilometers in the air using suspensions, allowing visitors to see the underneath hull and appreciate the workmanship. You can also climb aboard using the stairs and the walkway into the ship.
