Fort East Martello Museum Reviews & Ratings
You can't beat the price. We learned a good bit of history that we didn't know before and we used to live in Monroe County for several years. Our kids enjoyed it, as did we. Their favorite part was the life size doll house they could walk into. If you're physically able to climb the spiral staircase on the interior of the fort, you are rewarded with an unprecedented view of the water.
It was a great experience I waited eight years to check off my bucket list. The man in the gift shop was very friendly and informative, the exhibits were well maintained and set up well. I finally got to meet Robert the Doll and am very pleased to say I had his permission to take a photo! I cannot stress this enough: Just be polite and courteous and ASK PERMISSION BEFORE taking his photo. There were a couple other guests who were rude to him, I think he will be expecting their letters of apology soon.
Atmosphere is eerie and interesting, really enjoyed the self tour option and exploring the forts hidden wonders. The museum allow you to travel back in time to a period where of discovery and imagination. Recommend you to visit if your in Key West.
The museum is nice, but I have to admit that the reason I wanted to go to Fort East Martello Museum was because of Robert the Haunted Doll. A doll famous for being haunted and the inspiration for Chucky from the “Child's Play” movies. And it was worth it. The doll is very cool and unusually. I also got a small Robert-doll in the gift shop. Thumbs up for Robert the Doll!
I think most people, as I did, will come here for Robert. And it sure was interesting. But I gotta day, there’s a lot of history in this place, so take your time to go over all the artifacts and explore around the museum, including the upper floor of the fort that has beautiful view.
