Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum Reviews & Ratings
Great museum. The staff was very hands on and a wealth of knowledge. One of the female staff in the upstairs exhibits went out of her way to help our kids stay engaged and excited about the history (full disclosure: our kids like history and I think she could tell so she ran with it). She really knew the history of the original ship and pointed out some really interesting historical facts in a fun way to our kids. Pricing is about right for what you get. Worth visiting!
Have been following Mel Fisher and the adventures he went on and through to find the Atosha since I was a teenager. I finally made it to the museum and all I can say is that I was blown away.. From the history of the artifacts to the restoration of them to the family themselves just amazing. I must say I am part pirate and I just loved the section on pirate history. It's easy to spend hours in there. And to me it's worth every second!
Interesting displays document the long search for the Atocha, sunk by a hurricane in 1622. Includes many artifacts salvaged from the ship. Good background about the recovery efforts as well. Well worth the time.
Very interesting place to go. Lady's bring your credit card because they ha e a nice jewelry shop with artifacts found from his explorations.
I read "Search for the Atocha" when I was a child and have always been excited about Mel Fisher's treasure hunting. So being able to visit the museum was a cool opportunity. Our kids enjoyed the visit. There are a a lot of nice artifacts on display and informative exhibits. The audio tour feature is interesting and informative as well. The staff at the museum were friendly, and the price for admission seemed fair to us.
