  • This national monument is very popular and has excellent supporting infrastructure. On a busy day, the line of cars can extend partway down the mountain. However, once you get in and park, there are exhibits, shops, and, of course, the monument itself. You can take short walks on improved trails around the base, and get an up-close look, or just take it in from the perfect viewpoint near the entrance. The exhibits (small visitor's center) explain the history and how it was planned and executed... very interesting. Plan a few hours for this visit, including waiting to get in. One word of caution: Overcast days can easily obscure the view of the monument, so plan accordingly.

  • This place is AMAZING. The size and perfection of it, humbles you. On top of everything I got perfect weather when I visited. For good pictures there might be best hours when sun is hitting before noon. Parking was a breeze, the road to get there is entertaining with many stops to do different things. Once there there are good pieces to read history on it and even sit and soak it in. I loved visiting this monument.

  • Mt Rushmore is something everyone should visit. It's amazing to think of what they had to go through to make this happen. The drive to get there is beautiful as well. You can spend a lot of time here and hike a couple of trails or just make it a fairly quick visit. When we left, we took route 16A, which is a gorgeous (but long and winding) drive heading south from Mt. Rushmore. There are some cool tunnels to go through, one of which you can see Mt. Rushmore through in the distance.

  • Pretty Awesome! My wife wanted this trip. I was not that excited about seeing Mt Rushmore but it's crazy cool. It is mesmerizing like the Grand Canyon. The Black Hills are very pretty and Keystone SD was a nice mountain town. We had great weather in Mid October. Just remember most of the town closes around 10/15. Highly recommend Mt Rushmore. We want to come back.

  • My visit was during a heavy snow day in December right before new year's so we were the only ones there. If you can find a time like mine you'll have a great view of the mountains and be able to get as many pics as you want without others around. Parking is not free but is reasonably priced.
