Lamai Beach, Ko Samui Reviews - Write a Review
I have been coming here to Samui for about 18 years now and been living here for about 6. In my opinion, Lamai beach is one of the better beaches on Samui. I walk the beach a lot and find it very picturesque. Be careful of the manicure/pedicure ladies on any beach in Thailand! (Here too) They will con you. Get a price 1st before they even touch you. It should be no more than 200 - 400 Baht for about an hour of their time. But up to you, I understand if you are on holiday that you may be happy giving them a 1000 Baht, as that is what they will request, but that is too much and is a con.
Its just a beach, not stunning but not bad either. The sand is not the white powdery kind, its soft but it is also the hard rough type of sand in places. The sea here is also very deep (about 1.5m), from about 3ft from the shore line. There are lots of hotels etc etc where you can use their sunbeds and umbrellas at a charge (or buy a drink), shade in the way of palm trees is slightly limited but it is there. As the beach is so long (and quite wide) there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy.
Very calm & nice beach... Not too developed.. So less crowded & that's not the best part.. Lamai beach has the clearest water among all beaches in koh Samui.. It's pretty safe... I was travelling alone & I kept my stuffs on the beach & was snorkeling for an hour... Oh yeah this beach is quite good for snorkeling.... U can do snorkeling without proper equipments... Just get a good swimming glass.. Water isn't too deep... If you are into water sports then you have the option (may be not as good as Chaweng Beach)... There are couple of restaurants nearby so food option is available...
Beach is ok, The sand is more small pebbles. Quieter than Chaweng
There's nothing not to love. If you're a fan of a tourist oriented city center you have it. If you want something less crowded, it's within a walking distance. Great food, warm ocean, nice beach, pleasant people. A good end for a backpacking across the Thailand.
