Opened in 1943 and built on the donations of the local Islamic community, this is the first mosque to have ever been built on Japanese land. Having endured both the bombings of the Second World War and the devastation of the 1999 Great Hanshin Earthquake, the mosque's precious cultural heritage remains preserved. The Czech architect Jan Josef Svagr built it in Turkish style, with a ground floor prayer hall for men and first floor prayer hall for women. Beautiful and elegant, it is one of the more remarkable buildings in the city. Friday sermons are in Arabic, Japanese, and English.
