The Roman Catholic Basilica of Santa Cruz is a colossal cathedral with a dominant Gothic presence in the form of a facade flanked by two huge towers.

At the top of the main altar is a striking painting of the ‘Last Supper’, modelled on the renowned work of Leonardo da Vinci. The stained glass windows and intricate wall carvings add to the charm and grandeur of the place. The church dates back to 1600 although it has gone through other renovations through the years. • It was not dark in the Santa Cross Basilica , but just the murky light...was percolating into the lofty roofed Basilica at high noon. All was cool tranquility inside. The wall of Altar is enticing with its rare and unique colours of paints. The colours , especially Verdigris green, vermilion, bisque and puce... all have amazingly reflected even in that murky light. An Italian painter Fr. Antonio Bergamo certainly deserves A Big salute for that painting. The top of the altar carry a large painting of the Last Supper and , the white and very lengthy ceiling with the paintings of The Way Of Cross. Each and every part of the the structure, Including each mote and pebble in that compound will have to say centuries old ghastly history. Just sit inside of the Basilica, listen it's tranquility... We will feel an ethereal ecstasy... Santa Cross Basilica is not a museum. It is house of worship with some restrictions to uphold its spiritual aureole. The pin- drop silence and murky light jointly create an unprecedented ambience inside the Basilica. Never miss this in your list of visit.

  • Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, a church built originally by the Portuguese and elevated to a Cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558, was spared by the Dutch conquerors who destroyed many Catholic buildings. Later the British demolished the structure and Bishop Dom Gomez Vereira commissioned a new building in 1887. Consecrated in 1905, Santa Cruz was proclaimed a Basilica by the Pope John Paul II in 1984. This magnificent church is a must-see destination for tourists who come to Kochi.

  • The church is situated at the start of fort kochi.. it truly depicts the lifestyle of the people back then.. its a quite place.. the architecture of the church is stupendous and the interiors are historic.. i would love to visit their again..

  • The most beautiful church and the experience of the mass was surreal. Must visit this beauty and even though mass is in Malayalam, attend and partake in being present. It is worth it.

  • Very clean and well maintained place. Gives a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
