Belur Math Shrine, Kolkata Reviews
The grounds are beautifully maintained, it’s quiet, serene & so very clean. Entry to the grounds is free and to the museum is only ₹5. Yes you have to remove your shoes & there’s a room to keep them in for safekeeping & u won’t mind walking bare feet since it’s so clean. The museum is very interesting & tells u about the life of Swami Vivekananda And the Ramakrishna movement. There is also a temple on the ground. Photography in these areas is strictly prohibited..
Located on the banks of River Ganga, Belur Math is a wonderful place to visit. The temple is beautiful that gives you a peaceful experience the moment you step into the Math. The silence and serenity of the place with take you to a divine state of mind. The best time to visit this place is during mornings or after 4PM. The temple stays closed during the afternoon. You can take time and meditate inside the temple or just take a walk around the premises.
First thing I want to say, No matter what's your religion, you can come here for the mental peace. The main 'math' was made by Swami Vivekananda. There are relic of all religion in main 'math'. The roof is like roof of a cathedral and from outside it's look like the mixture of Temple and Mosque. One thing keep in your mind, the timing to visit of the temple is in between 6am-12pm morning. In 11:50, everything within temple premises was closed, reopened at 4pm again. So the peoples who are coming from far, plan your visit accordingly. There is a book shop which packed with different books written by Swami Vivekananda and the different Maharajs of 'Math'. I bought some books at cheap price. If you're going there please sit peacefully in main 'math' for some minutes. You'll be peaceful for sure.
Very amazing place. Cool and silence you can rest your mind and body by meditation in the main temple. There is a library for swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna about his life and works. However I could not find a good restaurants to have my lunch so bring yourself if possible:-)
Great place to visit! This place have well maintained garden and museum.also have ganga ghat u can relax your mind there. Two gates are for in and out and well maintained library. If are searching for peace u can go there. 3 and 4 temples(not sure how many temples i never counted)
