Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda's Ancestral House And Cultural Centre - Review

You can learn everything about the life of Great Swami Vivekananda by coming here. The place had been his ancestral home back then and laps many stories of his life within its walls. It has now been converted into a museum providing peeks into the different aspects of Swamiji’s life, his aspiration and morals. All of the rooms are decked with many artefacts and items of its time along with nicely written description panels too. The museum has been restored under Ramakrishna Mission and has a cultural centre and library. Since the museum has become a much-revered destination among tourists, some new additions have also been made including garden and subtle decors. Come here if you are interested in history and learning of this great monk.

  • A huge place. Just like a mansion but with simple interiors just like swamiji's time. The exhibits on display gave a brief summary of Vivekananda's noble life. the daily things used by the family members tell us a story of the happenings in the house Photography was prohibited inside, but the books on sale; which offer a detailed description along with the photos of the rooms in which the great family lived, made up for it.

  • Good place to visit but don't enroll yourself in any language course. It's a full waste of money and time. Teachers are not supportive at all.

  • The museum gives a good feel of Vivekananda's family life. But except for a small video show, there isn't anything which describes his spiritual journey. A newcomer (primarily foreign tourists) who does not know much about Vivekananda will probably not relate to the place, and it is recommended that you read up on him before coming here. The place is nicely reconstructed and it is worthwhile to watch the video and read the materials in the museum describing the efforts done and techniques used by Ramkrishna mission to reclaim and resurrect the property. A small library with Vivekananda's books and a reading space are missing and those would be a good addition to the museum. It takes about 45-60 minutes to stroll through the museum, if you go through the videos and closely examine every display.

  • It is an enlightening experience to visit the house of a dynamic personality who changed the lives of many young men during his time and beyond. The house of Swami Vivekananda has been excellently restored to its original settings during the day and the effort by the Sri Ramakrishna Mission is commendable in this regard. The museum opens for public at 10 in the morning and tickets (worth ₹10 per adult) have to be bought at the entrance. The complex has to be toured barefooted (no footwear) and a guide accompanies the tourists at all times to explain the exhibits and the significance of each room present. A small bookstore is available in the reception which has books on the lives and teachings of Maa Sarada, Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, in three languages (English, Hindi, Bengali). Photography is strictly prohibited inside the premises.

  • It is one of the best place. Best atmosphere belongs inside the ancestral house of Swami ji. And if someone want to know about Swami ji, here has all the answers.
